The Psychoactive Substances Authority has suspended the licences of all psychoactive substance retailers in Hamilton. The Hamilton City Council adopted a policy at the end of February, which outlines where these retailers may operate. The effect of the policy means that all existing retailers are non-compliant.

Today's decision is the first step in the process to cancel these existing licences. New licences are not being issued until regulations are released early to mid-2015, which means Hamilton will have no psychoactive substance retailers for at least the next 12 months.

This is an absolute victory for the Hamilton East community. A massive thank you to all those who signed our petition and participated in this process. Also, massive thanks to Councillor Angela O'Leary who has led the development of Hamilton's policy.
